Taking Tea with Teleky - Original Artwork

Taking Tea with Teleky reimagines Coogee’s past through Otilie Erna Teleky. In 1897, Madame Teleky—became licensee of the Baden Baden Hotel (the recently redeveloped Ballamac House), a rare and prestigious position for a businesswoman of her era.

Influenced by an archival portrait, photos, local records and as a tribute to Tom Roberts’ Impressionist style the painting captures a fashionable tea party set against a sparse, undeveloped landscape overlooking the beach. I hope to spark curiosity about the spirited women and forgotten narratives that shaped our local history.
