‘Day Painters’ Balmoral Beach- Original Artwork

Original Artwork

My painting, ‘Day Painters’, honours the legacy of the earliest Australian female impressionists. Ethel Carrick Fox, Hilda Rix Nicholas & Jane Sutherland. They were simply amazing! Look them up! Using vibrant colours and energetic brushstrokes, I tried to capture the spirit of their quick day-painting sessions on this coastline. I wanted to paint them slightly transparent.. moments in time.
They were never painting together at Balmoral in fact Jane Sutherland painted the country in plein-air. I just imagined them in this landscape together.

I wish I could tell you everything I discovered about these artists and Balmoral Beach History!

‘Day Painters’ celebrates the incredible strength of female artists both in the past and those today taking risks, creating enduring work despite the limitations on their time and the restrictions of their era. ❤️
